We love our local yarn shops, don’t you? It’s always fun to find out the stories behind our favourite shops, so we sat down for a quick chat with Lucy from Purl A Row in Cornwall.

What’s your shop called?

Purl A Row

Is there a story behind the name?

The shop is close to a river where there are boats moored and my logo is designed to reflect this.

Where is your shop and what is the neighbourhood like?

My shop is in the ancient stannary town of Lostwithiel in Cornwall. It is a beautiful old town with a church, river walks, cafes and all independent shops.

Who works at your shop?

It’s just me at the shop and my name is Lucy

What makes your shop special?

I only sell natural fibre yarns and hand dyed yarns, so no acrylic. I support many local small farms who supply wool from their small flocks of various sheep.

What are your most popular yarns?

Oooo that’s a tough one, but it’s probably Ruzza Farm Romney which is a local yarn that is hand dyed with natural dyes and the yarn does less than 5o miles from sheep to shop.

Do you have a knitting group?

We have 2 sit and social groups

When do they meet?

We meet on a Tuesday 7-9pm and a Thursday 1-3pm

What’s your favourite piece of knitting advice?

Never ever knit a scarf as a beginner!
