Knitter of the Year 2018

Win a Day at West Yorkshire Spinners

We’re launching the fourth year of our fantastic Knitter of the Year competition!

Knitter of the YearWhat is it?
Three years ago we launched the Knitter of the Year competition on our hunt to find the nation’s greatest knitters. There is so much to knitting and we want to celebrate it all, from designing to charity knitting and everything in between! Entries are now open and we’re asking you to nominate your favourite for all four categories – simply complete the form at the bottom of this page.

The Categories

knitter of the year designer

Designer of the Year
This category is open to anyone who creates their own patterns. We’re always on the lookout for inspiring designers and want to hear about those you feel should be celebrated for their talent and creativity.

knitter of the year charity

Charity Hero
Knitters are amazingly generous with their craft, and we are always blown away by the amazing achievements of our readers! If you or someone you know has done some brilliant woolly charity work, we want to hear about it!

knitter of the year onlineOnline Innovator
This category is open to bloggers, vloggers, podcasters and anyone else who spread their love of knitting online. If an online knitting enthusiast keeps you coming back for more, put them forward for this award, and don’t be shy – put yourself forward too!

knitter of the year localLocal Superstar
This category celebrates local knitting shops and their communities. We want to find people doing brilliant things – whether that’s shop owners, teachers or event organisers. The people most deserving are often too busy to put themselves forward, so nominate someone you think deserves this.

The Grand Prize

knitter of the year in partnership with WYSFive winners from each category will get to visit the West Yorkshire Spinners headquarters on 14th March 2019. West Yorkshire Spinners is one of the few remaining hand-knitting brands in the UK that still develops and manufactures yarn in house. Winners will get exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to see how the yarn spinning and production process takes place. You’ll also get to meet the team behind the fantastic range of WYS yarn. It’s a prize money just can’t buy!

  1. Rosemary

HI there. I want to nominate 1 person for 3 of the categories but it won't let me :(. Can you help please? I have liked you on FB and Instagram.

    • Liam Marshall

Hi Rosemary, if you refresh the page you should be able to resubmit the form with a new nomination. If you aren't able to do so, please email me at and I will add the additional entries.

  2. Claire

Hi, I've just purchased the latest copy of knit now from Asda. It's awesome as always. However I'm rather disappointed to discover that you have a double page spread in the magazine dedicated to a competition that ends whilst the magazine is still on the shelf & the new magazine not of the press. I was really looking forward to entering this. Perhaps you could look at ensuring all competitions are open until the next issue is sent out. P.s loving the new packaging. Not only is a box more eco-friendly, I could see all the features in the magazine without having to jiggle various free gifts around. Brilliant idea, Thank you.

    • Liam Marshall

Hi Claire, we're very sorry for the delay in responding to your comments. Unfortunately, due to print deadlines and constraints, we could only keep the initial round of voting for our Knitter of the Year awards open for a limited amount of time. This is not something we do on a regular basis and all of our other competitions and giveaways remain open until at least a week after the issue they are shown in goes off sale. We do however take on board all of your feedback and will take this into consideration for future issues.

  3. Ann Hunter

I woul Like to vote for 'Blue light babies' for the Charity Hero award
