PomPom Blossom Festival

Make a pompom and help transform the village of Balfron into a multi-coloured art installation!

As part of the Fabfest held in Balfron, Stirlington, artist Gillian Cooper is inviting the world and her friends to make a pompom to create a colourful, multi-sensory exhibition in the village. They want hundreds and thousands of pompoms to be hung from the trees around Balfron!

The Pompom Festival wants pompoms of all sizes, big and small, made from wool or other materials and will also include some less conventional art works hanging from the trees.

Each pompom will have a little tag attached with the maker's name, their blog or website if they have one and a single word the maker would like to describe it, themselves or the festival! Each will also be photographed and added to the Pompom Festival blog, so you don't have to make the pilgrimage up to Scotland to see your pompom in place.

For more information about the event, check out the festival blog.

Pompom kits are available to buy from the organisers for £5 (and you can even sponsor a pompom too), but if you want to make them from your stash's odds and ends, check out the instructions and video tutorial below from Drops Design:

Cut out 2 circular cardboard pieces with the desired diameter. Cut a big hole in the middle. Place the 2 pieces against each other and wind the yarn round. The more yarn, the denser the pompon. Cut the threads between the 2 pieces, be careful not to pull out the threads! Use a thread to tighten round the middle of the threads between the 2 pieces. Pull tight and tie hard. If the pompon is a little uneven, adjust the lengths of the yarn ends.
